Whenever I try a new restaurant, I am always curious to try out their dessert offerings. I always judge a restaurant by the quality of their desserts. The food could be average, but if their desserts are good, I’ll be back again to try out other desserts in their menu. Below I am featuring a few must try desserts that are unique in its own way. Enjoy reading and thank me later once you’ve indulged in a sweet affair.
Flower Pot Surprise, JamJar Diner
You may think it’s an ordinary pot. But it’s a yummy dessert disguised as a flower pot. Covered with oreo soil, once you dig in, you will be surprised to find a unique mixture of ice-cream, marshmallow and gooey brownie. A divine mixture that in its simplicity tastes nothing short of heaven. Share this pot of pure delight only with someone you love. Because you otherwise won’t want to share. Not even a single bite.
The Big Bang Theory, Joss
Ever conceived of a dessert that is presented with delicate elaboration? This dessert borrows its concept from the famous Big Bang Theory. Portions of the dessert represent the solar system. You have to see it to believe it! The Big Bang Theory at Joss beats every other dessert in the most innovative way to present a dessert. This dessert cannot be consumed alone. You need at least 5 people to share this culinary divinity. Here’s a video of the dessert being presented. Warning: You will be tempted. Very tempted.
Masala Chai Popsicles, Bombay Canteen
Balanced in flavours and textures, this masala chai Popsicle may sound like a weird concoction but every chai lover must try their hands at tasting this dessert that is served with biscuit crumbles and caramel sauce.
Bubbling Kulfi, SpiceKlub
Molecular gastronomy is the new “it” word in food industry. One of the upcoming restaurants which offers innovative dishes and desserts is SpiceKlub. The Bubbling Kulfi is the result of making something that was only imagined earlier- ice-cream that bubbles! Kulfi mixing with liquid nitrogen, the effect of which can only be tasted and felt and not merely described.
Green Tea Chiffon Cake, The Fatty Bao
Green tea as a dessert! Who could even think of this? The folks at Fatty Bao surely did and excelled at it. Baked freshly, this dessert is thin & extremely light. Beneath the green tea casing is a creamy mousse and inside the mousse is a cube of orange jelly. My mouth is watering just by imagining the riot of flavours all at once. Do not miss. That’s the bottom line.
Pani Puri Sorbet, PapaCream
Papacream serves ice-cream flavours that are unusual yet yummy. Pani Puri Sorbet served with crisp pani puri baskets piped with airy potato mousse is one of their most sought after treats. Pani puri fanatics may not readily accept this concept but I believe it’s worth a try.
Green Chili Ice cream, Bachelorr’s
An ice-cream where you enjoy the sweet cream flavour for a few seconds and then the feisty green chilly flavour kicks in. Although the flavours are contrasting, it will leave you wanting for more.
All these desserts have a nice twist which despite all its uniqueness enhances your food experience. I’m not a purist. I believe in variety and I believe in experimenting. This decade has seen a mighty change in food concepts and especially in desserts. Gone are the days where our dessert options were limited to just kulfi and ice-cream. This huge change is a result of all the food adventurers who believe in creating something new. Here’s an ode to the exemplary culinary experts.
I will continue my adventures with food on my blog and I urge you to share your food adventure stories with me. Visit the Foodventures microsite and stand a chance to feature in a video with Vikas Khanna or Vir Sanghvi.
