An appointment with the Dentist!

You switch the television on and you are inundated with advertisements on the likes of “Kya Aapke toothpaste mein namak hain”, “Are your teeth heat and cold sensitive”, “Does your toothpaste provide you with 100% protection” I, like everyone else ignore these ads. Yesterday, I had an appointment with the Dentist. I woke up with a sharp pain on the right side of my mouth. The dentist examined me and quickly exclaimed that I may have to get “ROOT CANAL” done. The two words reverberated for quite some time in my head. ROOOOT CANAL? Why? Answer: I did not take care of my […]

Obsessing over The Mentalist

My latest TV series obsession is The Mentalist. I’ve obsessed to the point that I’ve started to deduce people. And I have….not succeeded in discovering anything new.  Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) is charming. He is a charming loner. I love the way he is unattached. He is witty, manipulative, cunning and an excellent detective (consultant, technically)  His charm rubbed off on me and for the past few weeks, I have tried to deduce people while I try to commute to work, talk to colleagues, acquaintances, strangers, neighbours, family. Essentially, all the time.  In my quest to deduce people, I have understood […]

Book Review: Six Suspects by Vikas Swarup

Indian authors are not liked by many. Many have told me how Indian authors are “boring and so predictable”. When I pick books, I am very careful. The summary has to excite me. Only then will I go ahead with the book. Very rarely do I read a book on a friend’s recommendation. A few years back, I chanced upon Q & A written by Vikas Swarup. As most of you know, Slumdog Millionaire was inspired from this book. The title and the summary caught my fancy and I started reading it. I must admit, that Q & A is […]

Book Review: And the mountains echoed

Khaled Hosseini is a brilliant author. His previous books, The Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns are in my “Good Reads” category. The magic of Khaled Hosseini is that you can easily identify and relate to all the characters. Such is his brilliance.  When I laid my hands on his latest book, I was more than happy! I had read the author’s interview on HT Brunch before I read the book. He told the readers that it’s different from his previous two books. The third one concentrated more on emotions and it had almost nothing to do with Afghanistan or […]

Book Review: The Oath of Vayuputras

I love mythology. The characters in Indian Mythology fascinate me. When I heard about the Shiva Trilogy few years back, it caught my fancy! The first two books are just spectacular. The plot offers twists and turns that you will never expect. It defies all the cliche that one might expect in a mythological fiction novel. Though this book was released months back, I read it only recently. Having read the earlier two books, I had set high expectations on this one. The story opens up with the revelation of The Evil, which was the focal point of the earlier […]

The Perfect Road Trip

I am writing this post for Ambi Pur India.. What I like about their contest is the topic! Almost everyone of us has had a road trip. Mention a long drive and all your friends go “Awwwww”. I recently visited Jamrung, a picturesque village about 12 kms from Karjat. We started our journey at 4pm and reached our destination at 8pm. My friends and I decided to opt for a long drive. Maruti Ertiga being our companion, we were 7 of us. The road trip began with sharing childhood memories and all through out the trip, secrets, clandestine facts and […]

Love Ignited

She speaks a lot yet her silence is evident when she is unable to express what’s in her heart He looks at her, notices her gaze, she stares ahead as if in a daze Moments pass by when she realizes that she is silent He takes her hand, whispers in her ear. She smiles. She had to. His words ignited an innate passion She forgot all about her thoughts. His company is enough for her.  She rested her head on his shoulder and beamed like a teenager.  And then they walked hand in hand towards an unknown destination..
